Building Thriving Communities
We want to positively impact the people who help make and sell our products by investing in and empowering communities, including our partners, employees, growing networks, retailers, and distributors.
Supporting our Supplier Network
Our global network spans many continents and communities, and we aim to carry out our impact throughout our value chain towards a responsible and sustainable future. By supporting and empowering these communities and fostering transparency, we strive to also help our consumers understand how we source our products.
To ensure alignment and collaboration with our partners and suppliers, we regularly meet and review climate change risks. These discussions also serve as a platform for encouraging innovation to reduce climate impacts from our products and services. Additionally, we collaborate and invest jointly with our suppliers in the research and development of low-carbon technologies, aiming to reduce their environmental impact and rethink operational processes.
Furthermore, we invest in providing education and resources to support the implementation of best practices for regenerative agriculture, renewable energy and efficiency, water management, and responsible packaging and circularity. By promoting these initiatives, we aim to contribute to the overall environmental impact of our industry and encourage responsible practices at every stage of our value chain.
Building a Transparent Supply Chain
At The Vita Coco Company, we are committed to conducting our business in a manner that maintains compliance and integrity throughout our entire supply chain.
At the core, all our coconut ingredient suppliers are required to adhere to our Supplier Code of Conduct which outlines clear expectations regarding procedures and practices. This includes compliance with all local laws and regulations and a strong emphasis on good governance, including policies relating to ethics and anti-corruption laws.
The Vita Coco Company believes in upholding the highest ethical standards across our business and understands the importance of respect for humans and animals. We support issues like human rights and prohibit modern slavery—including forced labor, child labor, and human trafficking—and the unethical use of animal labor or exploitation in our value chain. The Vita Coco Company does not test our products on animals. We also require suppliers to individually certify their position against animal cruelty separately from the audit upon onboarding.
Vita Coco is a member of the Supplier Ethical Data Exchange (Sedex) and uses the Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit (SMETA) protocol to assess our suppliers’ environmental and social standards to continue building transparency in our supply chain. Our suppliers are required to comply with strict labor requirements under applicable laws and regulations, ensuring fair wages, safe working conditions, and respect for the rights and freedoms of their employees. In addition, they must adhere to our rigorous standards and are routinely evaluated according to Sedex’s SMETA ethical audit methodology.
We also help facilitate farmers’ receival of organic certification for their farms, empowering them to adopt organic farming practices. Practices include using natural pest control methods and organic fertilizer such as earthworms and coconut husks. As a result, farmers benefit from certifying their farms because they can receive a price premium for their products, helping generate greater income and improving their economic livelihoods. Simultaneously, farmers are helping enhance soil health, conserve water, and promote biodiversity in the ecosystem.
Additionally, our sourcing practices play a crucial role in building a transparent and responsible supply chain. Having the Forest Stewardship Council (“FSC”) certification for our paper-based packaging guarantees that the materials used come from responsibly managed forests. Our aluminum cans are also Aluminum Stewardship Initiative (“ASI”) certified, meaning the aluminum is both responsibly sourced and produced.
By prioritizing transparency and sustainability in our supply chain, we strive to create a positive impact on the environment and the communities we work with.

The Vita Coco Project®
In the coconut industry, many farmers and their communities face significant challenges, often living in economically disadvantaged regions with limited access to education on, and resources for, best agricultural practices. Recognizing the importance of supporting coconut farmers and the longevity of their communities, we initiated the Vita Coco Project® in 2014 to empower the growing communities from which we source through economic development and access to education.
We work with our on-the-ground Vita Coco Project® partners to initiate and plan projects annually, working to address local needs in the community. Since 2014, the Vita Coco Project® initiatives have included building schools and classrooms in the Philippines and providing educational resources in Sri Lanka, and, more recently, Brazil. Beyond being hubs for learning, these schools also play a vital role in these regions, serving as cultural centers and community spaces. They also provide essential amenities such as electricity, access to clean water, and travel infrastructure for the community.
Additionally, the Vita Coco Project® offers scholarships for youths and young adults to aid their education, including traditional—post-elementary up to the university level—as well as vocational training in agriculture.
With the help of our partners, we hope to keep furthering our impact through the Vita Coco Project® initiatives as a reflection of our mission.
